1st Chestnut: Arrival [Action/Voice]

Action/Voice

[People who happen to be making use of the Hot Springs might take note that there's a stranger in their midst. A short, bald man with six little dots on his forehead is laying down and sleeping on one of the deck-chairs near the edge of the tub. He's dressed, at least, but that doesn't change the fact that he's just there, dozing away with a journal for a pillow. Occasionally he lets out a little sigh of contentment, mumbling to himself in his sleep and seemingly oblivious to the world around him.

After a while, he does wake up though, and looks around, completely lost. In his flailing he notices the journal he's been laying on and grabs it up.]

Huh? What...? Well how the heck did I end up in a hot spring? And...what's with this thing? Oh man I hope that blinking light doesn't mean it's gonna explode or something. That'd be just my luck...

[There's the sound of random buttons being pressed and the picture flickers a few times before Krillin realizes that the blinking light means that it is, in fact, recording. He sounds immediately apologetic, and just starts speaking normally, if somewhat formally.]

Uh...sorry about that. My name's Krillin and ah-hehehe I don't know who's Capsulepad this is, but I found it and I wanna return it. The book model is really cool, I didn't even know they made them, but I'm not a thief. If you can hear this, then let me know where you are and I'll return it right away. Only, I guess it'd be great if you could give me some directions too.


[Later, after he's finally departed and begun to poke around his new surroundings, Krillin makes a beeline for town, whizzing along through the chilly air and cursing his luck. It's cold, and his clothes are freaking gone, and he of course missed the teleporter. Once he finds and swipes some clothes, he'll start poking his head around trying to find out where he can get some food and more information. So, expect him to turn up in the Item Shop, Bakery, and Welcome Center.]

Yeah? Well, that's good. If you know Goku, then you must be alright. and yeah, I think I'm pretty lucky. He's a great guy.

[The towel flies back over the partition for Adela now.]

I'm Krillin, by the way. Sorry about the confusion, but y'know, I just sorta woke up there.

I had not thought you were peeping. I found no one upon entering the baths, so your arrival here was not only a shock to you.

[... She does appreciate getting the towel back, though.]

Well, no offense but you're probably half my age anyway. I've got no reason to be poking around in your bath.

[Really, honest. He is not Roshi. He swears.]

Anyway, what's your name?

[Ah? She blinks, not expecting being asked that so suddenly. She does speak though, not really thinking about it when she does.]

It is Adela.

[Well, he had already. He's not a complete buffoon.]

Well, nice to meet ya then, Adela. Guess the next question is what exactly is there to do around here?

There are several things, in a way. I have found work at the forge, though I would not recommend it as unskilled labour. The battle dome is always available to those who wish to use it to train, and there are several taverns and eateries for food, along with a grocer. I have not explored much further than that, but I am certain that there is more.

Yeah, I'm not really interested in blacksmithing. I'm not much for making things.

But this 'battle dome'? What's that like?

It is a large building with several dozen rooms. The technology in the rooms allows one to change the chamber to simulate a reality of their choosing - most use it for battle training, though there are some who have other purposes in mind for it.

I have seen Goku around there before, among others.

Is that so? That...does sound like a pretty cool place. Are there any enemies here? Those Malnosso guys? Are they pretty strong?

I have been told that they dwell outside the barrier, and that it helps to keep them at bay - our enemies, that is. The Malnosso are supposedly a neutral party, and there are those in this world who would wish us dead merely for existing here.

Is that so? Well. I wouldn't worry about them. If Goku's here, and Vegeta and Trunks and Gohan and the others, then it'll be no sweat. And I'm not so bad at fighting myself.

You know of Prince Vegeta as well?

[Surprise surprise. Forget Trunks she's not too fond of him anyway but he knows the prince? Huh...

Wait, he said something else - about worrying about their enemies. She frowns, shaking her head - not that Krillin can see it.]

I am not so worried. I can hold my own, and I have no intent to abandon my work for the missions outside the walls - there would be no one to forge new weaponry should I leave it.

Yeah, I know Vegeta. I guess he's here too, then?

[He laughs nervously]

He's not the nicest guy, but yeah, I've known him a long time too. We've fought together against Frieza and Cell and a few other really bad guys.

[Android 19 and 20 spring to mind.]

And you're the blacksmith huh? That sounds like it must be hard work. What sorta stuff do you make? Swords and knives and stuff?

As well as armour, arrows, blunt weaponry, and other things - though my best works are bladed weaponry.

[Big sigh, because that reminds her that she still has to work on a new sword...]

I can also do repairs and general works however, such as horseshoes or bolts to hold together carts.

Huh, well that's pretty cool. A girl your age, doing hard work like that.

[She's blinking at the comment.] Is that so unusual? Of course the work is difficult, but one must make a living somehow...

Well I guess where I'm from we don't have many blacksmiths. Most teenagers are in school, is all.

... It must be for more than learning to read, write, and basic arithmetic, I should hope.

[Because if it's not...]

Well, actually...that's pretty much what school is for. And science.

I suppose your world is truly different from mine. [There's an audible frown in her her tone as she continues.] Where I am from, unless one wished to be a scholar most stopped their education when they were still children. At least, that is the way it was in Belcrest.

Well, I think most people go through at least until their seventeen or so. Mandatory education and all that. But that's new, I grew up in a temple.

Mandatory? Hm.

[She splashes at the water, glancing down at it rather than the partition. That just seems so foreign to her...]

I have been at work since I was quite young, but I suppose it is not that way for everyone.

No, I guess not. I dunno, I was at the Orin Temple when I was pretty young myself.

Are you a monk then, ah... Krillin, is it?

[Times may have changed, but she at least knows to recognize a 'temple' as a kind of church, it only made sense that the man would be a monk...]
